Job Summary

The Upper School Counselor (9-12 th grades) supports the work of the School by promoting the mission, values, and policies of Randolph School. He or she is responsible for supporting the social and emotional health of students through counseling services. The Counselor develops, organizes, promotes, and carries out both proactive and responsive professional development, parent education, community events, and classroom lessons in support of the social and emotional needs of the division.

Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Build meaningful relationships with the upper school students, parents, and faculty/staff to cultivate a culture of well-being and a sense of community
  • Provide direct individual support to students, which includes recognizing and responding to student mental health needs and assisting students and families in connecting to resources for therapeutic support and long-term counseling outside of school as needed
  • Manage an individual caseload of students, which may include conducting crisis assessments and interventions around safety concerns and other urgent mental health matters in collaboration with the school’s student support team
  • Support teachers in implementing the advisory curriculum, and provide responsive lessons as needed
  • Maintain confidential records documenting contact with students and parents; develop procedures to ensure confidentiality
  • Collaborate with the Counseling department to develop education programs that strengthen relationships with students, faculty, and parents and promote the understanding of child and adolescent development
  • Collaborate with faculty, school nurse, student support team, division head, and outside professionals to best support the social, emotional, and academic needs of students
  • Lead faculty professional development about adolescent development and mental health
  • Observe classroom settings by request from faculty, administrators, and parents
  • Serve on the Admissions Committee and review future applicant’s files
  • Maintain and update a comprehensive list of outside consultants and service providers; make referrals to teachers, administrators, and/or families
  • Serve on the Student Support Team, Cross-divisional Counseling Team and other committees as requested to provide insight on the wellbeing of the school community
  • Provides support for the community in response to crisis situations
  • Play a key role in helping to create and cultivate an inclusive community
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree
  • License Required (LPC, LCSW or NBCC are preferred)
