Job Description:
The Exhibition Designer oversees the artistic direction and executes the installation and dismantling of art exhibitions in the galleries. Its ultimate objective is to manage the collection's safe handling, its physical protection, and to adhere to design guidelines that are both visually striking and follow universal design principles that are accessible to the public ( ADA compliance). Exhibition designers are visual storytellers that are proficient in architecture, graphic design, interior design, and possess construction management skills.
Daily functions include the transformation of curatorial, conservation and artistic concepts into practical aspects of exhibition design and installation. This position creates installation elements such as exhibition layout, mount making schedule, casework requirement schedule, and framing of paintings. They would participate in lighting design and exhibition signage concepts and planning. To ensure that the artwork is prepared for exhibition, they oversee the implementation of exhibition and collection installations including art handling, fabrication, construction, and lighting design. This position manages the exhibition budget and makes requisitions in accordance with purchasing rules as defined by the Office of Budget and Finance at the University of Texas at Dallas.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant design focused field such as exhibition design, graphic design, interior design, architecture, or similar. Three (3) years of related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
