Director of Manufacturing, Injection Molding Services

Muse Engine is an early-stage manufacturing company looking for an ambitious mid-to-senior level Injection Molding Engineer with a passion for product and process development, research & development, and cutting-edge manufacturing technologies. The company has developed an on-demand reconfigurable mold & cavity system for low tolerance parts. The Director of Manufacturing will be implementing a pilot production line, coordinate hiring a team, and must be able to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.

About The Role

In this role, you will play a critical role in developing, designing, implementing, and testing our novel injection molding hardware products. We are looking for someone who can apply their expertise to solving problems in creative and insightful ways. You’ll work with a team of electrical and firmware engineers, materials engineering, machinists, and outsourced partners to brainstorm and drive our product (a rapid manufacturing service) to prototype (pilot production).

An applicant should enjoy working in a fast-paced, team-based, solutions-oriented environment. This is a leadership role, both internal and external to Muse Engine. Clear communication and risk management skills are a must. As a member of our engineering team, you will report directly to our Chief Operations Officer. This is a full-time, on-site position.

Critical Job Elements:

  • Working in a hands-on, applied polymer software engineering capacity to model, procure/build, install, test, and refine our hardware products/processes and prototypes;
  • Develop and coordinate design team to develop a complex system that integrates hardware, software, mechanical, and electrical systems;
  • Manage build requirements, material specifications, and schematic preparations in execution of product/process system designs;
  • Review and evaluate designs and project activities for compliance with technology and development guidelines and standards; provide tangible feedback to improve product/process quality;
  • Develop and optimize operational workflow for a pilot production manufacturing line and supporting applications;
  • Coordinate with external vendors, and Muse Engine’s R&D team, machine shop, and information technology divisions;
  • Manage CAD technicians, machinists, and all other personnel related to operational workflow, including contractors, as needed;
  • Must be an effective team lead and problem solver, exhibiting a collaborative style and the ability to bring out the best in people through example;
  • Strong technical knowledge of engineering principles;
  • Must be an excellent communicator who radiates compassion, integrity, and loyalty to Muse Engine and its respective customers, partners, and employees;

Prerequisites:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Polymer Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, tool and die maker certification, or similar background with significant OJT experience; required;
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint; required;
  • 5+ years of industry experience with injection molding systems, polymer processing, mold development; required;
  • Experience designing and prototyping in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or equivalent; required;
  • Working knowledge of GD&T/PFMEA/ and DFA/DFM applications; required;
  • Experience in mold flow and modeling software; required;
  • Experience in various manufacturing techniques and designing mechanical constraints; required;
  • Experience in 3D printing and 3D printing principles; required;
  • Experience with procurement, installation, qualification, and maintenance of manufacturing equipment and supporting manufacturing software applications, e.g., inventory. equipment/asset management, purchasing; required;
  • Experience with creating and documenting standard work processes, with a keen eye to process quality; required;
  • Experience hiring, managing and mentoring/training individuals; required;
  • Proven experience working on diverse technical teams.

Preferred Background:

  • Experience with hardware design or mechanical engineering roles, conformal cooling, electromechanical assembly (i.e. power electronics, battery systems, etc.); preferred
  • Experience with at least multiple full design cycles from concept to production; preferred
  • Trained/Certified in Project Management, preferred
  • Trained/Certified in Lean and/or 6 Sigma, preferred
  • Prior experience with oscilloscopes, high speed digital test equipment, EMC hands-on test, logic analyzers, and function generators; preferred
  • Prior experience with electro-mechanical designs involve fluids, pneumatics, magnetics-actuators; preferred
  • Prior experience in NX CAD modeling system and Team Center PDM; a plus
  • Prior experience with PCBA bring up and verification; a plus
  • Prior experience with system level integration of products using SoCs and micro-controllers, data and video interfaces such as USB, HDMI, DisplayPort, and MIPI; a plus
  • Prior experience with opto-electrical systems, such as lasers, proximity sensors, and depth sensors; a plus
  • Experience with Environmental Health & Safety standards/laws within a manufacturing environment

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office and manufacturing environment.

  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
  • This role will require skill and flexibility in managing vendors and employees who may work remotely.

About Muse Engine

Muse Engine is an early-stage venture to transform traditional injection molding into an additive manufacturing platform. Muse Engine’s injection printing technology (IPT) merges toolkits from 3D printing with traditional injection molding to remove the costs and times associated with developing the tooling for injection molding.

Based in the Philadelphia PA - Wilmington DE region, during the next 9 months our first business-to-business consumer product, a rapid manufacturing service, is currently being designed and will be launched during the Q3 2025.
