Job Description

Primary Function:

The Volunteer Manager is responsible for the recruitment, onboarding, and retention of volunteers across all Senior Resource Association (SRA) programs, including Meals on Wheels, DayAway, administrative roles, fundraising, and committees. This role ensures a seamless volunteer experience and serves as the primary contact for all volunteers, working collaboratively with department managers to fulfill program needs effectively.

  • Lead the recruitment of a diverse volunteer base for Meals on Wheels, DayAway, administrative support, events, and committees.
  • Oversee the entire onboarding process, ensuring timely completion of all documentation, orientation, ensure compliance with SRA policies and oversee background check processes in coordination with Human Resources.
  • Maintain a detailed volunteer database to accurately track hours, roles, and activities for reporting and analysis.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for volunteers, required training, addressing questions, providing support, and ensuring a positive volunteer experience.
  • Collaborate with department managers to define volunteer needs and create clear, detailed role descriptions.
  • Develop and implement retention strategies, including volunteer recognition programs and events, to promote long-term engagement.
  • Prepare reports on volunteer recruitment, retention, and engagement, using data to improve program effectiveness.
  • Partner with the Community Outreach Manager to promote volunteer opportunities at job fairs, community events, and outreach activities. Attending events, as required.
  • Regularly assess and refine volunteer management processes to enhance the overall volunteer experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and engage effectively with volunteers and staff across different programs.
  •  Excellent organizational, project management, and time-management skills with attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple volunteer programs simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and volunteer management software with strong data analytic stills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, with an emphasis on confidentiality and sensitivity.
  • Ability to work efficiently in fast-paced settings, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and resolve conflicts.
  • Understanding of local, state, and federal regulations related to food service and nutrition programs.
  • Able to build effective relationships within and beyond SRA, representing the organization professionally in the community.
  • Culturally sensitive approach when working with diverse populations.
  • Active participation in SRA teams, committees, meetings, training, and events.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks associated with the job, such as lifting and carrying items up to 20 lbs.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
  • 3 years of experience in volunteer management, recruitment, or a similar role, preferably in a nonprofit environment.

Other Requirements:

  • Valid Florida Driver’s License and auto insurance required for site travel.
  • DOEA Employment Eligibility (Level II Background Screening)

About the Organization

Senior Resource Association (SRA) is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization that provides services to support and advocate for independence and dignity of older adults throughout Indian River County. Our organization was established in 1974 to provide services and programs that promote an active, healthy, and independent lifestyle for older adults. We provide and manage the Meals on Wheels of Indian River County programs, Adult DayAway programs, In-Home Services, and Transportation for seniors and their families. With two locations in Vero Beach and Sebastian, SRA operates the only state-licensed Adult DayAway programs in the County. Our goal is to keep seniors healthy and in their own homes for as long as safely possible. Due to memory loss, brain injury, food-insecurity, and/or lack of socialization, all families have a special need for their loved one that leads them to Senior Resource Association. SRA is recognized as the lead agency in Indian River County for homebound and community-based services for seniors and adults aged 18 and older.

In addition, SRA is the county-designated public transportation provider. Our fixed-route buses provide service along 15 routes throughout Indian River County, and part of St. Lucie County. Our demand-response service picks up the elderly and disabled at their specified origination point and takes them where they need to go in the community.
