Job Summary/Basic Function
The School of Social Sciences and International Studies (SoSSIS) at Wright State University (WSU) invites applications for one full-time faculty position at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor, to begin January 2026. The position has a duration of 1.5 years, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and departmental needs. The teaching is focused on the Anthropology and Crime and Justice Studies (CJS) programs within the College of Liberal Arts. This faculty member will also develop and regularly teach courses in Biological Anthropology, with special emphasis on Forensic Anthropology and Bioarchaeology, to serve undergraduate students in the Anthropology major, students in the undergraduate CJS major (especially those pursuing the Forensic Studies Minor), and the Criminal Justice courses at the graduate level to serve the CJ track within the Master of Public Administration (MPA) program.
The Anthropology major at Wright State offers a BA degree and a minor. Within SoSSIS, we also offer a Forensic Studies minor that serves students not only in the College of Liberal Arts, but also students in the College of Science and Math. At the graduate level, WSU offers a Criminal Justice track in its MPA program. Successful candidates will be required to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses, as well as conduct scholarly research, advise students and engage in service activities.

Minimum Qualifications
  • An earned doctorate in Anthropology, or a closely-related field anticipated by the start date

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching at a college level
  • Experience developing online courses and programs
  • Ability and interest in developing interdisciplinary coursework
  • Scholarship in one or more of the following areas: anthropology, forensics, bioarchaeology, biomedical anthropology, or osteology

Essential Functions and percent of time
The standard teaching load for this position is 12 credit hours per semester with the possibility of up to one (3 credit hour) course release for significant services for the academic year.
