The Unified Communications Jr. Network Engineer serves as a technical subject matter expert assisting in the areas of managing the connectivity and infrastructure of New York City Health + Hospitals network. This responsibility is includes always ensuring internet access, testing each new connection when hardware is added and helping to maintain the enterprises network stability. This position requires hands-on technical skills to provide high-level technical services, design, implement and troubleshoot technology related problems that might include routing, datacenter design, intermittent packet loss, latency issues, system connectivity and equipment failure.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Hands on experience in architecture/design, implementation & administration of data/VoIP networks
  • Assisting with the research, selection, development, and integration of new technologies to meet the goals and objectives of the organization.
  • Assist with Cisco Call Manager systems solutions and analyzation of network performance and enhancements using disciplined network administration processes.
  • Providing technical skills, technical oversight and support for the design, availability, optimization, performance, and capacity management of network services, troubleshooting of various enterprise network technologies.
  • Technical knowledge and experience of CISCO routers and switches
  • Working with Wide Area Network (WAN) and Internet carriers during implementations and outages
  • Hands on experience in voice, WiFi gateway and controller setup and maintenance
  • Assist in documenting IT related inventory ( MDB , NIMS , Diagram )
  • Assist in troubleshooting complex telecommunication issues, willing to perform x-connects or device rack mounting.
  • Following establish organization change and release management procedures, naming standard and other internal processes and procedures for managing daily activities and changes.
  • Staying abreast of industry trends to proactively identify areas for growth, improvement, and development with the capability to implement industry best practices.
  • Assist in analyzing converged network traffic and reports to management on results.
  • Oversee day to day operations of overhead paging system

  • Junior Engineer for SPOK
  • Must be willing to work on other projects as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, applied Mathematics, Business Administration, Economics/Statistics, Telecommunications, Data Communications, or a related field of study; and 2. Five (5) years of progressive, responsible experience in the field of data processing, computer systems and applications. Operations Specialty requires supervisory experience (5 years). Network Services requires a telecommunications background and experience. 3. Broad knowledge and expertise in the characteristics of computers, peripheral devices, communications systems and hardware capabilities, programming languages, E.D.P. applications, systems analysis methodology, data management and retrieval techniques; or 4. A satisfactory equivalent combination of training, education and experience

  • Some travel to sites within the five NYC borrows is required
  • Required to attend Central Office meetings.
  • Participate in special projects as needed and perform other duties as assigned.
