Under the direction of a Caltrans Maintenance Manager I - Maintenance Support, the incumbent (Telecommunications Systems Analyst II) will provide coordination, advice and telecommunications engineering expertise necessary for the maintenance and future expansion of communications systems. Requires some statewide travel; will routinely travel throughout District 11.

Appointment to this position is contingent on passing the Department of Justice (DOJ) background check.

Working Conditions

Position located at 7183 Opportunity Road San Diego 92111, San Diego County.

Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment.

While at the base of operation, the incumbent works in a climate-controlled environment under artificial light. The incumbent will  be required to travel throughout the district to perform field work and may be exposed to heat or inclement weather, blown dust, traffic, noise, or uneven surfaces.

New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a State owned or leased vehicle.

  1. Describe your experience managing time and conflicting priorities while performing multiple functions. Include examples of how you have used time management tools (e.g., calendars, email, priority lists, monitoring logs) to track documents, work independently, set priorities, make recommendations, and meet deadlines.
  2. Describe your experience developing innovative solutions to improve two-way radio communication systems. Include your experience procuring materials and services in compliance with the Division of Procurement and Contracts (DPAC) and Departmental policies and procedures, maintaining records, preparing, submitting, managing contracts, and managing budgets. Experience documenting, reporting issues, analyzing technical information to determine effective actions, and ensuring tasks are completed and deadlines are met.
  3. Describe your experience communicating effectively with internal and external partners, staff, and management. Include examples of drafting, researching, and reviewing correspondence, using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint), following verbal/written instructions, and utilizing other relevant software or applications.

Candidates selected for this position must successfully pass a Department of Justice background check and the incumbent is also required to sign CHP Form 101A annually.
