Job Summary
Working under the supervision of the Assistant Director of the Student Success Advising Center, the Student Success Coach will promote student success and persistence by providing timely intervention for students needing academic recovery support. The academic success coach works proactively with staff and faculty to promote academic planning connected to long-term academic goals; monitor academic progress and success; connect student students with required resources; and provide individual holistic support based on individual student needs and barriers to success inside and outside the classroom. The academic success coach provides individualized support to students in the GROW program and responds to alerts generated through progress report campaigns and faculty referrals.
Some evening and weekend hours may be required.
Responsibilities
Provide proactive outreach and academic coaching for students to help them address their individual learning needs in order to increase achievement and persistence.
Respond to faculty alerts and provide students with relevant and timely support.
Monitor individual student progress and work collaboratively with other college units to provide support based on individual student needs.
Coordinate and offer programs tied to academic success and persistence.
Collaborate with faculty and staff to develop and offer programming and resources that support the development of academic success skills.
Create and disseminate reports related to academic coaching services
Facilitate workshops on student success skills
Assist with the development, implementation, and assessment of advising related programs and initiatives
May teach GGC 1000
Required Qualifications
4 Year / Bachelor's Degree
At least 2 years of college academic advising experience
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Ability to establish and maintain trusting relationships with students, colleagues, and campus partners
Ability to collaborate with colleagues and other campus units to support student success
Ability to work to manage multiple projects and prioritize duties with a high degree of initiative and independence
Ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies and adapt communication style accordingly
Ability to listen, synthesize information, and reach sound conclusions
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong presentation skills
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral)
Extensive knowledge of trends, issues and accepted practices relevant to advising and student development
Extensive knowledge of campus resources and referral processes
Understanding of campus organizational structure and departmental services
Knowledge of the GGC academic programs and degree requirements
Knowledge of GGC and USG policies, procedures, and student success initiatives
Knowledge of and ability to use advising related technology, including Degreeworks, D2L, Canvas, BlackBoard, and BANNER
Understanding of FERPA guidelines
Knowledge of advising assessment practices and understanding of advising related data.
