The Cy-Fair Fire Department is seeking a skilled Radio Technician II to support our mission by maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing critical public safety communication systems. This position plays a vital role in ensuring that our radios, alerting systems, and communications equipment operate reliably to support emergency response and daily operations. As a Radio Technician II, you will install and program radio equipment, support mobile and portable devices, maintain fire station alerting systems, and provide 24/7 on-call communications support as needed. The position of Radio Technician II is classified as a full-time hourly non-exempt position.

 

Pay Rate: $33.91 per hour + .20 per year for longevity

 

Retirement: TCDRS 7% employee contribution, 14% employer contribution

457B Voluntary retirement account, Department contribution matches up to 3%.

  • Currently through Blue Cross Blue Shield

PPO HSA $5,000: The Department covers 100% of the employee premium and 90% of the family. The department makes a quarterly contribution towards the HSA account.

Dental and Vision

  • Currently through Guardian

The Department covers 90% of the employee premium and 70% for family.

Short- and Long-Term Disability

  • Currently through Guardian

The Department pays 100% of the premium.

Life Insurance - $50,000 policy

  • The Department pays 100% of the premium.

Supplemental Insurance:

The Department partners with Aflac for supplemental insurance. This is available for purchase by the employee. Additional Life insurance is available for purchase by the employee.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, maintain, and repair mobile, portable, and fixed radio equipment, including dispatch consoles, repeaters, fire station alerting systems, and microwave systems.
  • Program and troubleshoot radio communications devices, vehicle data modems, and portable alerting devices.
  • Support department-issued smartphones and cellular devices.
  • Maintain up-to-date radio inventory, frequency/channel lists, and repair documentation.
  • Provide 24/7 on-call support as required.
  • Assist with installation of structured wiring (CAT5, CAT6, RG6, low voltage).
  • Operate, maintain, and repair communications equipment on the mobile command vehicle.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 6 years of progressively skilled, relevant experience in radio communications systems.
  • Strong technical knowledge of RF technologies, radio programming and electrical theory.
  • Ability to install and maintain mobile electronics, radios, and emergency equipment in vehicles.
  • Valid Texas driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
  • Current CPR certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days).
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • APCO Radio Technician certification.
  • FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License (GROL).
  • FEMA NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800 certifications.
  • FEMA NIMS ICS All-Hazard Communications Technician certification.
