Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) POSITION SUMMARY: The Occupational Therapy Assistant implements occupational therapy programs and provides occupational therapy treatments to residents to facilitate increased independence and functioning under the supervision of a Registered Occupational Therapist.
Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) RESPONSIBLITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES: 1 Implements resident’s individualized treatment plan as defined by the primary Occupational Therapist;
2 Provides individualized occupational therapy treatments including activities of daily living and range of motion exercises;
3 Performs activities of daily living evaluations under the direction of the Occupational Therapist;
4 Organizes and facilitates treatment groups in consultation with the Occupational Therapist;
5 Instructs residents, families and other caregivers in the skills and techniques of the occupational therapy treatment program under the supervision of the Occupational Therapist;
6 Works with other members of the rehabilitation team to develop programs and activities consistent with the needs and capabilities of each resident;
7 Maintains appropriate and timely resident and non-resident documentation for all residents treated;
8 Attends and contributes to resident care, staffing and other required meetings as a representative of occupational therapy, under the direction of the Occupational Therapist;
9 Cleans, maintains, identifies and reports the need for repair of equipment, as necessary;
10 Ensures that residents and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere that recognizes the individuals’ needs and rights.
Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) SPECIFIC EDUCATIONAL/VOCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: 1 Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant Program certified by the American Occupational Therapy Association. He/she must be certified and/or eligible for certification by the American Occupational Therapy Certification Board.
2 Licensed and/or eligible for licensure, as required by the state.
Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) JOB SKILLS: 1 Good organizational and time management skills.
2 Good verbal and written communication skills.
Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) PERFORMS RELATED DUTIES: 1 Interacts with residents, families, visitors and employees.
2 Carries out other tasks as requested in situations where hands-on intervention/participation may be required
