The MSK radiology service is based in the Missouri Orthopedic Institute (MOI), which is central Missouri’s largest freestanding orthopedic hospital. The orthopedic department at MU is growing rapidly, creating a need for expansion of our well-staffed MSK radiology division.  MSK faculty work closely with an academic and highly subspecialized orthopedic department as well as other departments in the university and the community.  The MSK reading room is embedded in the Orthopedic clinic space at MOI which fosters close collaboration with referring providers. Our MSK faculty have earned the respect of their referring providers and enjoy a highly varied and interesting case mix.

The MSK division offers a fellowship in MSK imaging. MU is a level 1 Trauma center serving a wide catchment area in central Missouri.  At MOI, there are 1.5T and 3T MRI scanners and a CT scanner as well as US and fluoroscopic procedure rooms. Radiology has a total of four (soon to be five) 1.5T, four 3T and one 7T MRI scanners.  Approximately 380,000 radiology exams are performed each year between the University Hospital & Clinics, Ellis Fischel Cancer Center, Children’s Hospital, MOI and out-patient imaging.   The Department of Radiology is financially successful.

What we expect from you:

  • Diverse case mix
    • MU is the primary tertiary referral center for the regional mid-Missouri hospitals. In addition to the main University Hospital, MU Health Care encompasses the Ellis Fischel Cancer Center, Missouri Orthopedic Institute, a new Children’s Hospital, and multiple outpatient clinic facilities.
    • MU Health Care is the only American College of Surgeons (ACS)-certified Level I Trauma Center in mid-Missouri and one of only six in the state.
