The Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology is a world-leading neuroscience department where discoveries at the molecular, anatomical, and physiological levels are seamlessly integrated to the development of new treatments for neurological diseases.
The hiring lab (Igarashi lab: investigate (1) basic circuit mechanisms for associative memory in the entorhinal cortex/hippocampus, and (2) how this circuit is affected and can be restored in Alzheimer's disease. These projects use in vivo electrophysiological recordings, calcium imaging and optogenetics in task-performing mice. The successful candidate will work on either of these projects. We are especially interested in applicants who pursue subsequent PhD or MD/PhD career.

Responsibilities:

The Lab Assistant is responsible for mouse behavioral experiments and maintaining animal colonies with little to no supervision in the Igarashi laboratory. Additionally, the lab assistant will also construct in vivo electrophysiological recording devices and perform genotyping on a routine basis. Only under direct supervision, the lab assistant may perform procedures in support of ongoing research activities.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Ability to take accurate and detailed laboratory records
  • Ability to work selflessly in a team environment


Preferred:

  • Laboratory experience
  • Excellent computer skills, including usage of MS office
  • Ability to perform basic calculations (percentages, ratios, etc)
  • Undergraduate experience in neuroscience or related areas preferable
