Job Description

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Counsel students individually and in groups to support their transition to school, foster positive attitudes, self-understanding, and help them develop coping skills for personal, social, academic, and family
• Participate in school advisory committees, staff meetings, and related
• Organize and conduct teacher training and in-service
• Present engaging parent education programs, collaborating with external
• Plan and teach differentiated weekly character classes to grades K-5, and advisory classes to grades 6-8
• Assist administration with counseling and guidance
• Identify and implement intervention strategies for students and families, directing parents to appropriate community resources when
• Assess students' mental health and social-emotional needs, collaborating with outside providers for counseling
• Maintain confidential counseling notes and observe student behavior to evaluate plan effectiveness.
• Demonstrate cultural sensitivity in working with
• Engage in ongoing professional
• Foster a positive, growth-oriented work culture, establishing professional

KNOWLEDGE OF: 

• Relevant federal and state laws and regulations regarding mental health services and Special Education
• Emotional needs of students and associated counseling services
• Child development principles
• Behavior management strategies for atypical behavior
• Medications' impact on behavior
• Positive behavior intervention methodologies and classroom management techniques
• Diagnostic tools and their applications
• Computer operation and relevant software

WORKING CONDITIONS:  

• Work is predominantly in a school environment with minimal to no travel
• Daily contact with students, teachers, and school staff and regular/occasional contact with parents, community members, and outside providers

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Knowledge of child development and counseling
• Desired: Successful experience as a school counselor and a Master’s Degree in counseling, social work, or a related
• Preferred: Three years of experience providing counseling services to school-age
