What To Expect
Tesla is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to join our dynamic team, focusing on the testing and analysis of materials used in our products. This role is critical in ensuring the quality and performance of our cutting-edge materials. The ideal candidate will have a degree in Material Science, Chemistry, or a relevant field, and experience with material testing and machine shop operations. What You'll Do Perform a variety of routine and advanced testing on materials, including tensile testing, hardness testing, compression testing, and electrical testingOperate and maintain various testing equipment, including universal testing machines, hardness testers, profilometer, and electrical testing equipmentPrepare and test material samples using machine shop equipment such as metallographic cutters, angle grinders, and other hand toolsInterpret test data and create detailed reports with insightful conclusions to guide decision-making within the quality operations teamPerform regular preventative maintenance, troubleshoot equipment issues, and liaise with external vendors for more complex repairsMaintain inventory of consumable supplies and materials while ensuring the laboratory upholds high standards of cleanliness and organization through 5S practices and workplace hygiene standardsRefine testing procedures, draft revisions to SOPs, and ensure the lab is stocked with necessary supplies to meet operational needs
What You'll Bring Bachelor's Degree in Material Science, Chemistry, or a relevant field with a minimum of 2 years of experience in material testing and analysis or equivalent Experience with material testing methods, including tensile testing, hardness testing, compression testing, and electrical testingMachine shop experience, including operating a metallographic cutter and angle grinderAbility to quickly learn Tesla's in-house testing methods and operate specialized equipmentStrong attention to detail, ability to work independently and collaboratively in a project-focused environment, and excellent verbal and written communication skillsProficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, with experience in internal quality systems and laboratory information management systems LIMSAbility to wear PPE, including powered air-purifying respirators PAPR
