General Purpose
This position is responsible for performing general business duties for BED which encompasses improving, maintaining, and repairing BED's buildings, grounds, automotive fleet, mail processing. Stockroom activities, and assist purchasing activities.

Pay Grade 6: $22.77 - $37.29 Hourly

This position will close on 11/21/2024. Essential Job Functions Buildings and Grounds - Performs building and ground maintenance, including, painting, lawn care, planting of shrubs, trees, and flowers, shoveling snow, and mowing at Pine Street, Gas Turbine and Winooski One Hydro and Substations.
- Operates forklifts and plows and performs a variety of other labor-intensive duties.
- Perform carpentry repairs on furniture and building structures, including but not limited to, doors, windows, locks, shelving units, etc. Performs miscellaneous maintenance duties, as necessary.
- Sets up/tears down auditorium and Spark Space for various daily events.
Mail Processing - Process outgoing mail, including customer billing as necessary
- Operate machines and equipment necessary to carry out the functions of the mailroom including, but not limited to; folding machine, stuffing machine and postage meter, etc.
- Handles Daily Payment Processing data, including but not limited to; cash and check payments, etc. that are brought to the bank.
- Assists in opening mail and drop box payments.
- Process dead mail returned by the Post Office.
Stockroom - Perform all duties related to shipping and receiving, including: checking purchase orders; checking materials received to ensure that they are compatible with the purchase order, and that they are in a complete and undamaged state; and generating shipping and receiving reports.
- Responsible for conducting weekly and annual inventory counts.
- Responsible in the exchange of rubber protective equipment, as per Section 20 of the BED Accident Prevention Manual.
- Make inventory labels for incoming material.
- Perform duties related to preparing and shipping out items via Fed-x, UPS, and Freight

- Makes recommendations to Director of Purchasing and Facilities for items to be inventoried or expensed.
- Disposes of salvage materials in proper manner.
- Receives, unloads, and accounts for material purchased and supplied to BED.
- Responsible for the loading, unloading, and transport of materials received or charged from stores.
- Responsible to see that the warehouses are locked and secure at all times.
- Controls the distribution of materials from inventory or from the point of receipt to individuals or crews within BED. On occasion during normal working hours, this person will locate any parts necessary.
- Responsible for maintaining clear access to contaminated storage area per VOSHA requirements.
- Issues materials to employees. Disposes of salvage materials in proper manner.
- Operate Forklift as required
- Maintain inventory and garage bay areas, including, but not limited to; sweeping, mopping, dusting, etc.
- Running parts/supplies out to field personnel as needed
- Responsible person for inventory control across the entire department.
Purchasing - Help maintain a certificate of insurance database for vendors doing work at BED.
- Assist in maintaining records related to new and existing sources of equipment, materials, services, and supplies.
- Help resolve freight claims for BED.
- Assist with purchasing and scheduling delivery of fuel oil and ammonia
- Assist with contacting vendors and purchases materials, supplies and services necessary for the operation of BED.
- Assist with the preparation, evaluation and processing requests for price quotes, request for proposals (RFP’s), bid openings, purchase requests, purchase orders, and change orders on a timely basis and in compliance with City policies, ordinances, and State and Federal regulations. The technical portion of these requests will be provided by others.
Non-Essential Job Functions: - Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements - Ability to work in various weather conditions required.\Ability to actively support City diversity, equity, and cultural competency efforts within stated job responsibilities and work effectively across diverse cultures and constituencies.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion as evidenced by ongoing trainings and professional development.
- High school diploma, Adult Education or equivalent.
- Minimum three (3) years’ experience in building maintenance environment and inventory required
- Experience operating office machinery preferred.
- Working knowledge of personal computers using the internet and Outlook
- Must have a certificate in the following:
- Knowledge of materials and equipment associated with an electric utility highly preferred.
- Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds.
- Must obtain and maintain a valid Vermont driver's license required.
- Ability to operate a fork-lift, plow truck and related tools and equipment required.
- Must be tactful, courteous, and able to get along well with co-workers and the public.
- Must possess good communication skills, be able to follow oral and written directions and have the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and how to solve problems.
- Regular attendance is necessary and is essential to meeting the expectations of the job functions.
- Ability to understand and comply with City standards, safety rules and personnel policies.
- Ability to work overtime as needed consistent with the provisions of the BED/IBEW Collective Bargaining Agreement.
