JOB GOAL:

To advance the college's mission, vision, principles, values, and strategic initiatives through continuous improvement decisions.

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:
This position will focus on designing and implementing targeted programs, services, and supports that address gaps in opportunity, inclusion, and achievement. Equity in Student Success Coach will engage, support, and mentor students, primarily emphasizing race equity. Not all students enter college with equal backing and support. Equity in Student Success Coach will seek to identify barriers to student access and achievement, particularly economic, organizational, and equity challenges. The ideal individual will collaborate among a team of employees to foster greater equity in outcomes through mentoring, student advocacy, and outreach and educational programming for students. Must be willing to work occasional evening and weekend hours.

This position also requires a deeper understanding of the community college mission, history, and challenges in achieving equity.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design, implement, plan, and support, educational enrichment and retention.
  • Advocate for and teach students to navigate college policy, procedure, and problem solving.
  • Design and deliver educational activities and programs that support department, division, and college student learning outcomes.
  • Support, attend, and participate in diversity initiatives on campus and in the community.
  • Develop and maintain effective positive relationships with students, campus, and community organizations.
  • Collaborate with employees engaged in equity and inclusion work from other divisions of the college.
  • Perform other related work duties as assigned.
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:
  • You are able and willing to provide outstanding customer service and serve as a positive representative of the department and the student services division with the goal of improving student equity.
  • You demonstrate knowledge of equity concepts, cultural competence, and racial identity development principles related to your work.
  • You understand how to engage, support, and mentor students with an emphasis on race equity.
  • You express yourself clearly and effectively through oral and written communications with attention to audience awareness.
  • You are a self-motivated individual with excellent time-management and organizational skills.
  • You have the ability to learn software related to working with student data, institutional data, and communication.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH/WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION:

The position involves working in an office setting. Occasional (10-33%) standing, pushing, pulling and grasping. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work. Constant (67-100%) sitting, walking, repetitive motion, talking, and hearing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree required. No particular major or degree program is preferred; however, strong intellectual training in an area focused on race, inequity, bias, etc. is preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in supporting equity-seeking populations: program development, client advocacy, training and awareness, etc.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, experience, and competence in engaging and supporting BIPOC students.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills are also required.
  • A demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team is also required. Basic computer skills in word processing, database management, mainframe usage, and Internet usage are also required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience in a postsecondary educational setting, college student development, counseling, advising, or related experience.
  • Demonstrated competence working with BIPOC populations, organizations, and programs.
