JOB CONTENT:

Performs all types of design work and calculations relative to the engineering of overhead and underground distribution lines serving residential, commercial, and industrial customers.
Occasionally performs system studies, distribution system modeling, critical analysis and planning. This position is responsible for extensive coordination with customers and various other departments of the Board to ensure electric service is provided as efficiently and professionally as practicable. Assists during power outages and other system emergencies as needed. Charged with entering and maintaining business-critical data essential for the safe and efficient operation of the Board’s electric system. This individual is subject to pre- employment drug screening and responsible for adhering to the Board’s standards for a drug- free workplace.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Performs all types of work relative to the engineering of overhead and underground distribution lines serving residential, commercial, and industrial customers to ensure compliance with the National Electrical Safety Code – ANSI C2.

2. Performs distribution feeder line rebuilds in accordance with accepted utility construction standards. Obtains easements of right-of-way from the public as necessary for line construction.

3. Meets with customers in the field during all seasons and weather conditions. Manages difficult customer situations, responds promptly to customer needs (internal and external), and solicits customer feedback to improve service.

4. Performs overcurrent protective device coordination studies and fault current calculations and analysis.

5. Performs detailed studies and analysis of the Board’s electric distribution system using Milsoft’s WindMil© Engineering Analysis software.

6. Uses AutoCAD, or similar products, to create and/or modify electronic drawings as needed by the Electric Department.

7. Uses computer equipment to read and/or program electronic devices used in the operation of the Board’s electric system.

8. Provides technical support and data analysis for other employees and supervisors of the Board relating to the Board’s electric distribution system.

9. Uses software packages such as Microsoft Excel or Access to create reports and/or graphs of important information from the Electric Department’s database repositories.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

No direct supervisory responsibilities. May direct work of others in absence of the Electrical Engineering Supervisor.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

Must have a minimum of a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from an EAC/ABET accredited university. Must have an Engineering Intern Certification and a desire to ultimately obtain a Professional Engineering Certification in the State of Tennessee. Must be able to efficiently operate Microsoft Windows based computing systems and be proficient with standard software packages such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint. Experience with AutoCAD, ESRI GIS, and MilSoft’s WindMil© Engineering Analysis software is a plus. Must be trainable and eager to learn new technical and computer-based skills. Requires the ability to self-schedule work and effectively communicate/interact with the public, other employees and supervisors of the Board. Must have and maintain a valid Tennessee Driver's License.

RESPONSIBILITY:
Responsible for performing highly technical work in a prompt, professional, and accurate fashion. Responsible for acquiring a complete working knowledge of Board policies and procedures regarding the daily functions and activities of the Electrical Engineering, Technical Operations, and Electric Operations Departments. Responsible for working with confidential data and using discretion to disburse information only to authorized persons. Responsible for performing neat, efficient, and highly precise work of a safety-sensitive nature which, if executed incorrectly, could result in possible increased legal liabilities for the Board, damage to the Board’s electric system and potentially endanger the safety of field personnel and/or the general public. Responsible for presenting a positive image of the Board and a caring attitude toward our customers.

INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CONTACTS:
Daily contact with employees in the department on an individual basis. Regular contact with employees and supervisors in the department on a group basis. Occasional contact with employees and supervisors in other departments of the Board. Regular contact with the public.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF JOB:

Requires prolonged periods of sitting and viewing computer monitors that could result in back muscle fatigue and eyestrain. Requires prolonged periods of work at a computer keyboard that could result in hand, finger and forearm muscle fatigue. Must have the physical stamina to work outside during all seasons of the year, including walking through construction sites and traversing hilly terrain. Requires the ability to bend, stoop, lift and get into/out-of a vehicle many times a day. May occasionally work aloft from ladders and aerial equipment for short periods of time. Requires above normal mental and visual alertness quite frequently. Subject to infrequent verbal abuse from irate customers.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Works inside under general office atmosphere approximately 50% of the time. Frequently works outside during all seasons of the year performing engineering-related duties. Occasionally requires working under stress and time pressures, and infrequently during emergency conditions and severe weather events. May work hours other than 8 – 5pm when situations and circumstances dictate.
Subject to call-in at any time for emergency work.

PROFESSIONAL LEVEL:

In addition to the required entry level education and skills listed above, CUB will also consider an individual for this position with a demonstrated professional background. Must have 5-plus years of progressive experience within the power distribution industry and possess a Professional Engineering license in the State of TN. Must be technically competent in all aspects of electrical engineering as related to power distribution and the electric utility industry. Must have proven experience managing multiple projects concurrently. Experience within any of the following areas will be considered a plus: SCADA, AMI, AutoCAD, GIS, system modeling and analysis, electric substations, metering, relay and protective device coordination and programming, fiber optics and communications. Individuals with additional expertise and experience are encouraged to apply.

Pay: $75,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
