GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Participates in and leads food production and meal service; does related work as required to accomplish program mission and to maximize resources and provide quality service.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: Under general supervision, an incumbent of this class performs and leads food preparation and meal service tasks at the Elementary Schools, Middle Schools or other assigned location using quality standards and sanitation procedures set forth by local, state and federal guidelines, and time saving production techniques. Responsibilities also include reviewing work schedules; and receiving, storing, and inventorying food and supplies in order to accomplish program mission, to maximize resources and provide quality service. Leads and trains Food Service Helpers.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND ATTRIBUTES: Knowledge of quantity food service preparation, menu planning, meal service, equipment operation and maintenance; familiarity with good nutrition; ability to follow oral instructions; ability to read, write and speak English; ability to learn the operation of Point of Sale computer system; ability to lead the work of others; ability to work cooperatively with school administrators, staff, faculty, students and parents; good personal hygiene habits; dependability; manual dexterity; ability to perform in a reasonable manner the essential functions of the position.
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Possession of a high school or equivalency diploma and either:
(A) Two (2) years experience in quantity food preparation and/or meal service; or
(B) Satisfactory completion of 30 credits at a recognized college or university with major course work in quantity food preparation, dietetics, nutrition, or institutional management may be substituted for each year of the required experience as indicated in A above.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Depending on assignment by the Food Service Director may require: Possession of a current ServSafe Food Protection Manager certification issued by the National Restaurant Association.
