Alumni Affairs and Development (AA&D)
Alumni Affairs and Development is a dedicated team supporting Harvard?s advancement activity through front-line fundraising, alumni and volunteer engagement, technology, prospect management and research, business process, events, communications, and many other areas.

AA&D is comprised of the University Development Office (UDO), Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) Development, AA&D Resources, the Harvard Alumni Association (HAA), and the Office of the Vice President (OVP).



This is a time-limited (up to seven months) position based in Cambridge, MA in a hybrid work environment . This full-time role on the Volunteer Leadership team is responsible for overseeing and supporting the work of several volunteer engagement committees including the Awards Committee that selects the Harvard Medalists and HAA Awardees each year; the Nominating Committee that is responsible for creating the slates for Harvard Overseers and HAA Elected Directors for the annual spring elections; the HAA onBOARD program that welcomes new members to the HAA Board of Directors via a year-long orientation program, and several other HAA- and Board-related programs.


This position requires strong project management skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, comfort with using databases and Excel sheets, and good judgement. This position reports to the senior director of volunteer and alumni engagement.

Position Description

  • Oversees and coordinates the work of the Nominating Committee including: strategic and coordinated work with the Office of the Governing Boards (OGB), HAA, and AA&D Research to identify and build a deep pool of candidates with in-depth and targeted research throughout the year and nominations from alumni and volunteers and the broad Harvard community; direct management of the tracking database; responsible for communications with committee members and staff
  • Oversees work with AA&D communications to write and finalize candidate profiles and serves as a liaison to candidates throughout the election process; in partnership with OGB oversees the production of printed and online ballots; manages the University?s election website; point person for help desk questions.
  • Oversees the Mimi and David Aloian Memorial Scholarship program on behalf of the HAA, including written communications; outreach to student applicants; and overall project management of the program.
  • Supporting the work of the HAA Awards committee including communications with committee members, Medalists and HAA awardees; planning and execution of virtual and in person celebrations for winners; oversight of work with AA&D communications office to write and finalize winners? profiles and news announcements.
  • Supporting work of the HAA Board meetings and Alumni Day from meeting planning, communications, and on site event responsibilities.
  • The above covers the most significant responsibilities of the position.? It does not, however, exclude other duties, the inclusion of which would be in conformity with the level of the position.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor?s degree.
  • Minimum of four years of relevant experience required.
  • Experience managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and proven ability to work in a team environment.?
  • Evening and weekend work occasionally required especially during the months of May and June.

  • Experience managing confidential and sensitive projects and information;
  • Excellent business writing and verbal skills;
  • Must possess and regularly use sound judgement;
  • Must have cultural sensitivity and awareness of diversity issues regarding the internal and external Harvard community.
  • Mission driven with consensus building background including demonstrated experience engaging diverse stakeholders in a fast-paced and changing environment;
  • Skilled at seeing both the big picture and the details of how to get there;
  • Filemaker Pro and Excel experience a plus.
